Kropyvnytskyi is a city in the center of Ukraine, located not so far from the combat zone. There are often sirens, the city survived air strikes and “attacks” of enemy missiles.
Despite this, Kropyvnytskyi is relatively safe for Ukrainians leaving the zone of active hostilities. As of the beginning of May, more than 8,000 internally displaced persons have officially registered in the city. Today, the city continues to live and work to provide a secure rear for those on the front lines.
We have gathered information about the initiatives of the city authorities during the war:
🔹 Now, the first stage of the derussification of toponyms is being completed in the city. Soon, streets Borodianska, Irpinska, Chornobaivska, Heroes of Mariupol, the Square of Heroes of Ukraine and others will appear in Kropyvnytskyi.
🔹 The website of the city council added the section “Volunteers for IDPs.” There you can find contacts of all local volunteer centers and hubs and information about their activities. In addition, local authorities contribute in every possible way to the expansion and increase in the number of volunteer centers, transferring municipal property premises for use by civil society organizations.
🔹 A social dormitory for IDPs is being set up in the city. According to the reconstruction plan, new housing will also be built in Kropyvnytskyi for those who have lost their home.
🔹 Universities from the occupied territories will also move to Kropyvnytskyi. The first stage was the complete relocation of the Donetsk National Medical University. There are three more universities in line.
Kropyvnytskyi shows the example of a city that, despite the war and instability around, accumulates resources and shares them with those who urgently need it. It is thanks to such cities that those on the front lines keep going: both the military and civilians.
